“Those who play with the devil’s toys will be brought by degrees to wield his sword.”  ~Buckminster Fuller

“When you see something that is technically sweet, you go ahead and do it and you argue about what to do about it only after you have had your technical success. That is the way it was with the atomic bomb.” ~J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atom bomb

The above were generic atom bomb toys. If you wanted your kid to have something more specific, there was the Japanese version.

In this puzzle you tilted the box this way and that to put the little capsules (visible at the bottom) into the holes marked “Hiroshima” and “Nagasaki”.

With a Kix cereal boxtop and 15 cents you could wear an “Atomic Bomb Ring.” But wait, there’s more. It’s not just a cool look. It comes with special instructions.

Well, that was the 1950s, a time of cultural insensitivity and political ignorance. It’s hard to image this kind of toy a generation later. Or is it?
