With all due modesty, I was the best-looking feminist of the baby boomer era, not that it matters.
But who else could go “undercover” as a Playboy bunny to write an expose of the mistreatment of women at their clubs? It was a sensation and landed me a job at New York Magazine.
A pop culture celebrity, sure, but also a role model for women’s liberation. Probably, I’m most remembered as the founder of a feminist magazine. I’ve always been politically active, although I had to overcome revelations that I worked for a CIA-financed foundation. I was a vehement opponent of the Vietnam War, supported George McGovern and other liberals throughout my life, and founded the new left National Women’s Political Caucus.
I never retired from the “good fight.” I publicly opposed the Gulf War and Bush administration. Obama was a breath of fresh air, although I supported Hillary.
I finally tied the knot at age 66 to the father of actor Christian Bale. Even now, I’m still a knockout. Not that it matters.
